eLearning

eLearning

Information with a learning focus that is designed and delivered via an electronic medium is commonly known as eLearning.

The learning focus design represents the various strategies employed to present the information in a way that promotes knowledge retention and application of the learning.

The electronic medium represents both the delivery technology (eg CD ROM, Internet, intranet, email, phone, Learning Management System) as well as the way content is presented (Web site pages, Power Point slides, Flash, PDFs, Online Help systems).

The information can constitute many different types of learning including:

  • Simulations of systems and processes
  • Presentation of concepts
  • In some cases a blended approach to eLearning might be undertaken with both conceptual designs and simulations

The benefits of eLearning include:

  • Delivery at any time and anywhere
  • Simulations allow the user to experience an end-to-end process, first hand
  • Conceptual eLearning is an innovative and interesting method of presenting dry information
  • Conceptual eLearning can provide an opportunity for participants to be tracked and assessed
