Where are they now?
Timothy Wong started at SMS 25 years ago. I caught up with Timothy to discuss what SMS was like in its early years.

What was SMS like to work for? When I started to work for SMS, it was a small company with just 80 people for all of Australia. In fact, I was employee number 21! There was a real sense of collaboration back then and already, the company had lots of tradition behind it. Already at that stage, we had developed values of trust, support and lots of hard work and I’m happy to report that I saw these values still amongst current SMS’ers in a recent visit to the office

What are your favourite memories from your time at SMS? Well, back then, there were no computers or i-phones, so everything had to be delivered by hand and we only had old Macs to type up proposals on, I remember frantically driving around town crazily to deliver proposals on time, it was quite thrilling.

What was your greatest lesson that you took away from working with SMS? It would have to have been to be flexible, to be willing to ask for help and also to be willing to help others. Without these qualities, I don’t think we would have been able to deliver on some of the projects that we did so well on. This also really broadened my horizons of what I was capable of accomplishing.

What are you doing now? Well at the moment, I am touring around the world with my wife, just having fun! We have recently travelled to Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia and we will be going to New Zealand, Canada and North America shortly.
